Holmes & Watson Review: 2 Ups & 6 Downs

4. It's An Insanely Lazy Sherlock Holmes Spoof

If you were (somehow) hoping for the movie to be anything more than the most basic, surface-deep Sherlock Holmes spoof, prepare to be disappointed.

So broad and simplistic even the most casual Sherlock fans will likely find it dull and unimaginative, there's little in the way of cleverness or creativity here, with Etan Cohen's script instead dining out on all the well-trod Holmes tropes.

Inevitably, we get a sequence parodying the slow-motion action of Guy Ritchie's Holmes films, yet without presenting anything subversive or basically funny, it's pretty much just a soulless rehash of Ritchie's style.

Lacking the nuance that would make it appealing to actual Sherlock fans, this might've been a cute idea for a 5-minute Funny or Die sketch, but there's little to sustain it at feature length.
