15. Black Phone 2
While there wasn't much of an expectation that either of Black Phone 2's young protagonists, Finney (Mason Thames) and Gwen (Madeleine McGraw), could die by film's end, audiences sure were primed to expect quite the body count at the hands of the spectral killer known as The Grabber (Ethan Hawke).
Yet most surprisingly, not a single person dies in the film's present-day timeline - all of the deaths in the story take place in the past, and despite The Grabber's violent intentions towards the central group, everyone makes it to the end in one piece.
And because that's not enough of a tidy resolution, Gwen also gets to have one final phone call with her late mother Hope (Anna Lore), who tells her she's proud of her.
This really couldn't have been tied off with a neater bow, honestly, even though its commercial success all-but-guarantees we'll be seeing The Grabber again in an inevitable threequel.
