20 Horror Movies You Should Watch Totally BLIND

7. Audition

At this point in time it's probably pretty difficult to go into Audition without knowing much about it - especially with a filmmaker as singular as Takashi Miike at the helm.

But let's just assume you might actually be able to watch the film with no preconceptions whatsoever, that as taken at face value it's a psychological drama about a middle-aged widower (Ryo Ishibashi) who organises a fake film audition in the hope of finding a new romantic partner.

And boy, you're sure not ready for the absolutely bonkers direction this sick puppy of a movie goes in.

Miike does a fantastic job of playing the film's initial premise straight for a frankly shockingly long time before it finally becomes... something else.

And that something else is one of the most distinctive horror films of the last 30 years - topped by a searing climax that's basically impossible to forget.
