House Of Gucci Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
2. The Superb Supporting Cast
Lady Gaga and Jared Leto in particular cast such huge shadows wherever they go in this movie that it's somehow easy to forget about the film's generally excellent supporting cast.
Al Pacino in particular is a sheer hoot as Gucci patriarch Aldo Gucci, in a role which allows him to give us some of those classically stoic Pacino scenes we've all been craving lately, but also intermittently fly off the handle as only Pacino can. It's one of his best recent performances, for sure.
Jeremy Irons is also great in a small but pivotal role as Aldo's brother Rodolfo, bringing his usual Jeremy Irons gravitas to the fore with a delightfully sneering performance.
In a sharp but less-showy role is Jack Huston as Gucci lawyer Domenico de Sole, bringing an understated restraint to the part which belies the larger role he plays in Gucci's story later on.
All in all the cast is an embarrassment of riches, really, even if it's Gaga and Leto who have the strongest awards chances.
