How A Nightmare On Elm Street Remake Should Be Made

7. New Line Cinema & Shared Universe Potential

Essentially, the rights deal that has been reached is one that allows the Craven estate to do what they like with the property in the U.S., but Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema still retain the international rights should anything else come of creating and selling a new movie. What this means is that the studio will still have to be involved in some capacity, whether that's in a partnership with a new studio if the Cravens sell their deal elsewhere, or as the sole distributor should they decide to keep everything peachy by sticking with the company that's worked with them from the beginning. At least if they want their movie anywhere other than the states of course, which they will.

Keeping New Line Cinema sweet is always a good idea at its heart, since they've had their fingers in plenty of horror icon pies over the years and were the reason cult hit Freddy vs. Jason got off the ground when it did. With the Friday the 13th series having roots with New Line Cinema, as well as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, something of a shared universe lies at the edges of possibility if they play their cards right. And if we all cross our fingers and pray to all that is unholy that they gift us with that level of nonsense once more just to sweeten the deal.
