In the run up to Far From Home's release, chatter from Marvel's camp has indicated that Mysterio will be an ally. Director Jon Watts event went so far as to call the character Peter's "cool uncle" in conversation with Entertainment Weekly, but most comics fans will no the character's intentions will be anything but genuine.

It certainly wouldn't be without precedent were Marvel to make Mysterio a hero. After all, they completely reinvented the history of the Skrulls to turn them into the victims of Kree expansion, rather than the cruel conquerers they were in the comics. Mysterio feels different though; everything just seems to indicate that he'll have been a villain all along.

It looks as though he's in it for the publicity. The likelihood is that these monsters he's creating are all illusions, and that the powers he's using are fakes too. The magic looks like it's been ripped from Doctor Strange's, while a classmate of Peter's describes him as being "Iron Man and Thor rolled into one."

Spider-Man declined Tony's public offer to become an Avenger in Homecoming, but the public - and by extension Mysterio - will no doubt be aware of his association with the Avengers. By aping Earth's Mightiest Heroes, could it be the case that he's looking to fill the spots vacated by their departed members?
