How Avengers: Infinity War Completely Changes The MCU

2. The Stakes Are Now Real

There's another Marvel problem that Infinity War fixes, although on a grander level. One of the problems they've had in the past is that the stakes never felt real, whether that's because of a lack of believable threat, not killing off heroes, or just the knowledge that these movies are made by Disney and the heroes will win the day without much of a cost.

Now, though, the heroes have been beaten. But it's not just the result either, but the fact that the sense of dread is palpable throughout this movie; you genuinely believe that terrible things are going to happen, and then they do.

The argument against all of this will be that the heroes are going to return, but that doesn't really change the impact in terms of shock and emotion upon seeing them die (and even then, there are the truly *real* deaths before the snap too). It's also not just a case of the stakes being real in terms of a threat, but with regards to that emotional impact too. It's the first movie to really create wounds that could potentially run deep, and that's got to have a massive impact on the way the MCU operates from now on.
