Flashbacks weren't typically a part of Star Wars, but the new trilogy has gone back to the past on a couple of occasions, showing Rey as a little girl in The Force Awakens, and then the relationship-breaking showdown between Luke and Ben Solo in The Last Jedi.

That means, then, there's a chance for more of them here, especially with an even greater focus on Kylo Ren now that he is in the clear as the main villain. Add in the chance of the Knights of Ren joining him this time, and there's a possibility that Abrams will want to revisit Snoke to show us just how he managed to get inside of his head and turn him into being his apprentice, all while building up the First Order. It's unclear what plans Abrams had for the character, but with him returning - and co-writing the movie too - he might want to utilise this device to tell us more about the character, while furthering Ben's.
