How Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Became The Best Superhero Film Since The Dark Knight
1. A Spider-Man For A New Generation
The biggest challenge of all for Into The Spider-Verse was having Miles Morales be the main character. Spider-Man is a character with such a rich history that having an entirely new person take up the mantle could have sparked a lot of backlash. Thankfully Miles Morales proved as he did in the world of comic books a few years ago, he is a more than worthy successor.
Miles was able to capture the youthful spirit that so many other adaptations of Peter had done before. However, while Peter's most important relationship was between him and his Aunt May, Miles' most important relationship is with his father. This provides an intriguing new look at how the presence of both of Miles' parents would affect the Spider-Man he would become.
Outside of their differences, the ideals and heroism of Peter are clearly reflected in Miles. When Miles tells Peter to take a leap of faith at the end of the film, it is clear that Miles does not need a mentor anymore, he has earned the right to call himself Spider-Man.
For a film with such a modern aesthetic, it is fitting that they have also created a likeable character that acts as a brand new hero for younger viewers to aspire to. Miles Morales is not just a great Spider-Man, he is the perfect Spider-Man for a new generation.
