How Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Became The Best Superhero Film Since The Dark Knight

Into the Spider-Verse was one of the first Marvel films released in the wake of the tragic loss of Stan Lee. It had the unenviable task of paying homage to one of the greatest people in comic book history. The film not only did so in its Stan Lee cameos but in the very essence of the film itself.

Stan appeared once in the film in one of his funniest cameos yet, as a shady business owner. The character was such a far cry from Stan himself making it one of the most unexpected of his many across his career. This was followed by a poignant tribute midway through the credits that paid more respect to the man himself.

It was the story itself that proved the best tribute to Lee. The idea that anyone could wear the mask and do what's right is something missing from many superhero films, outside of perhaps Raimi's Spider-Man. The key message of Into the Spider-Verse was just that, and will surely have been the perfect Stan Lee film above all others that Marvel has made.
