How You Can Tell The Magic Of Star Wars Is Gone
The Video Games Have Dried Up
Ever sit back and realise just how many Star Wars games there aren't anymore? The past is positively loaded with them: Knights of the Old Republic, Jedi Academy, Bounty Hunter, Starfighter - the list is numerous, and positively revered.
Cut to 2013 though, and publisher Electronic Arts made a deal. One that would get them exclusive rights to release Star Wars games into the market. With this in place, EA have made... two. In five years. Star Wars Battlefront 1, and Star Wars Battlefront 2.
Oh, and they actually cancelled a more original idea that was going to be made by Dead Space creators, Visceral.
Battlefront 2 was such a money-grubbing disaster, there was reportedly a phone call between Disney's Bob Iger and EA, as the game was being labelled illegal and a "gambling casino for kids", thanks to being loaded with microtransactions.
All of this is relative. We no longer have such positive, strong associations with the video game side of the property, and haven't this decade. KOTOR was 15 years ago, and the only remotely notable release was 2010's Force Unleashed II, which... wasn't exactly stellar.
Star Wars was always more than just the movies, and in the post-EA timeline? It's a joke.
