Hugh Grant: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
And 5 Performances That Sucked...
5. Dr. Guy Luthan - Extreme Measures
Oh, you have to at least admire Grant for attempting to star in a "straight-laced" drama, but his role as Dr. Guy Luthan in Extreme Measures, which so-starred Gene Hackman, doesn't really cut the mustard. The film sees Grant's paranoid physician becoming obsessed with a mysterious patient who arrives at hospital, only to succumb to his wounds moments later. Grant does try his best, but there's something incredibly conscious about it all. It doesn't help that the film itself is mostly hokey and lacks the necessary dramatic weight to allow Grant to do much more than stare at things with a concerned look on his face. It's not the worst performance ever, but it feels at odds with Hugh Grant, who wastes his potential with the material at hand (though he does get a few good scenes with Hackman). Ultimately, this fish out of water tale has Grant looking like a fish out of water in his role.
