Hugh Jackman: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
5 Awesome Performances...
5. Roddy - Flushed Away (2006)
Whilst Rise Of The Guardians was something of a misfire, Jackman's previously had good form for his voice-over work. One of his earlier ventures into the field was Aardman's first big film that retained the style of their stop-motion productions (Wallace And Gromit, Chicken Run and the like), except animated in CGI (so it doesn't take the better part of everyone involved's lives). Flushed Away told a typically Aardman story, with Jackman providing the voice of Roddy, a pet rat who gets flushed down the toilet by a vermin interloper (played by Shane Richie, no less) who snuck up through the sewer system. Roddy who has grown accustomed to the finer things in life is aghast at the society that lives in London's sewers. It's a pretty typical fish out of water (or, rat in toilet water) story, but with Aardman's signature charm and Jackman stealing the show with his plummy turn as the upper crust Roddy. And opposite Academy Award Winner Kate Winslet as his rat love interest!
