Hugh Jackman to decide WOLVERINE 2 director next week, down to David Slade or Robert Schwentke

Three days ago I wrote that German born Robert Schwentke (Red, Flightplan) - a name who had not previously been linked for the job - was my firm choice of those directors looking for work to helm the Wolverine sequel that shoots in January with Hugh Jackman. Today - Vulture say Schwentke is one of two names shortlisted to land the job, the other being David Slade (Twilight: Eclipse, 30 Days of Night, Hardy Candy). Both directors have been Ok'd by 20th Century Fox and are due to meet with star/producer Hugh Jackman next week as he has final say on who is given the lucrative job. Though a Vulture insider says 'it's going to be Slade". You can see why he would be favourite. His filmography is slightly gritter than Schwentke's, more colourful and atmospheric but I will warn Fox by saying he's hasn't got the filmic voice of Schwentke, who's a better all around helmer. Slade's movies are visually appealing with decent action - but a little empty all in all.
