5. Gary Oldman Is Completely Wasted

Hunter Killer Gary Oldman
Summit Entertainment

Recent Oscar-winner Gary Oldman appears in the film as Admiral Charles Donnegan, a trigger happy American military man who frequently proposes a rather hung-go approach to dealing with the delicate submarine stand-off against the Russians.

Sadly Oldman doesn't appear in the movie for more than about 10 minutes, and it's apparent for every second of those 10 minutes that he mailed his performance in from several continents away.

Oldman's never been one to turn down an easy paycheck, but this is an especially low-effort performance from the acting legend. He gets a few amusingly shouty moments, but for the most part he's given little interesting to do and is thoroughly squandered as a result.
