15 Devastating Documentaries That Mustn't Be Ignored

6. Deliver Us From Evil (Amy Berg, 2006)

This is the second entry that indirectly targets religion, and unapologetically attacks its practices and biases directly. Oliver O'Grady was a seemingly loving priest within the Catholic church, adored by his congregations, but he was also a manipulative paedophile, and although higher members of the clergy were undoubtedly aware of his actions, he was protected and relocated countless times. Unfortunately, this ensured that he was free to commit his atrocities over and over again, throughout the 1970's and beyond. The film is an absolutely damning analysis of the Catholic church's actions concerning their protection of many abusive figures of authority within it. They are conspicuous by their absence, and their refusal to take part in the film can only represent a thousand unspoken words. From witness interviews and victims' testimonies to the participation of a disgraced O'Grady himself, this is a relentless account of the worst of travesties inside the Catholic church that stems further up the clergy than you could ever imagine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OCz55k0pdc
