Independence Day: 10 Easter Eggs You Didn't Notice

8. "The Purpose Of These Green Lines..."

20th Century Fox20th Century FoxDuring the Area 51 sequences, astute viewers might notice a large screen in the background of several shots, which are showcasing the results of various nuclear strike attempts against the terrifying alien ships. If you happened to have glanced beneath the screen, though, you can see some green text. Only by carefully pausing at exactly the right moment will reveal a neat little easter egg - one which probably wasn't discovered by anyone until the DVD release. 20th Century Fox20th Century Fox"The purpose of these green lines is to lead you to believe that these words mean something," reads one of the lines, followed by: "And can I see with eye serene the very pulse of the machine Wordsworth," which is part of a poem by William Wordsworth followed by (yes) the man's name. Obviously somebody on the set department was having a swell ol' time coming up with things to put in the background, and presumably never imagined anybody would probe further.
