Independence Day: 10 Easter Eggs You Didn't Notice

7. Stargate Poster

Independence Day Stargate There's nothing wrong with making inter-references to movies in your own canon, which is exactly what Roland Emmerich does in Independence Day: he alludes to his previous movie, Stargate, which featured James Spader as a scientist who travels through an inter-dimensional portal and ends up getting covered in sand (okay, there's a bit more to it than that, but you get the idea). The scene you need to keep your eyes peeled during, then? The tunnel one! "What tunnel one?" you ask. Don't play coy. The infamous tunnel sequence, of course, is one of the most memorable scenes from Independence Day, if only because it made a bunch of people say: "Oh, God, I hope the dog lives: please tell me that that freakin' dog lives." As chaos reigns down upon the city, then, we're treated to a shot of a bus flying through a billboard featuring the likes of Stargate. Oddly, this scene isn't included in all versions of the film, though.
