Independence Day 2: 10 Reasons Why Resurgence Might Actually Be Good
5. The Considerable Advances in CGI
The original Independence Day looked pretty darn good, at least for its time. Now picture it with modern day CGI. There's no question that this is one area that has come a long way since the mid-90s, when CGI was starting to be relied on more and more. James Cameron (with The Abyss and Terminator 2: Judgment Day) really set the ball in motion, and soon every sci-fi and action flick saw their budget ballooning thanks to numerous CGI shots. Most of those have not aged well, especially in films who relied on the technique far too heavily. Practical effects should always be used when possible, as the human eye can easily pick out bad CGI as being unrealistic. That said, there are shots that cannot be done without the aid of computers, and with twenty years of progress, the newest Independence day installment should look much better than the last one.
