Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny: 22 WTF Moments

19. Voller Wastes No Time Being Racist

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Harrison Ford
Lucasfilm Ltd.

Because the movie wants to make sure that audiences know that Voller is a really, really bad man - in addition to being, y'know, a Nazi - when he materialises in New York under the alias Dr. Schmidt, we get to see him be aggressively racist to a Black waiter serving him in a hotel.

Voller asks the man where he's really from, to which the man replies "The Bronx," and when the man mentions that he served in World War II, Voller mockingly asks him, "Are you enjoying your victory?," suggesting that his nation hasn't sufficiently rewarded him for his war efforts.

What the scene lacks in subtlety it at least compensates for with Mikkelsen's sublimely slimy performance, oozing creepy unease in every which moment.
