The film that started it all.
A homage to the adventure serials of the thirties, the George Lucas-scripted, Steven Spielberg-directed Raiders Of The Lost Ark (notice the lack of the Indiana Jones name in the title) became an instant hit, topping the box office for 1981 and cementing the blockbuster model its creators had honed with Jaws and Star Wars.
