When Thor: Ragnarok was shooting in New York City, Anthony Hopkins was spotted on set as Odin dressed as a homeless person. That never ended up making it into Taika Waititi's movie and the All-Father was instead shown saying goodbye to Thor and Loki in Norway before passing away.
This version would have shown Odin passing his powers on to Thor (explaining how he could master the thunder even without Mjolnir) and rather than getting a peaceful death, he was going to meet his maker courtesy of one of Hela's daggers following her arrival on Earth. Honestly, it's baffling that this didn't end up making the final cut.
