Inglourious Basterds: 10 Things That Would Have Happened Afterwards

2. On Account Of Operation Kino, Everyone Is A Whole Lot More TV & Movie Savvy - And Apathetic To Violence

One theory that has circulated around the internet in recent years hones in on the idea that Operation Kino had a huge and dramatic effect on the Tarantino-verse in general, in which characters in movies written and/or directed by the man himself were thus born into a world with a large emphasis on popular culture references - mainly that of TV and film. The theory goes that because Sgt. Donny "The Bear Jew" Donowitz - who Tarantino has confirmed is the father of Lee Donowitz (the sleaze-bag movie producer from True Romance) - machine-gunned Hitler to death (as opposed to Hitler killing himself in a bunker), American culture was slightly warped; mindless violence is more accepted and celebrated on account of Donowitz's bloody act, and due to the war ending in an actual movie theatre, Americans have grown up with a heightened passion for the cinema Which explains why Tarantino's characters are all imbued with an encyclopaedic knowledge of all things popular culture - it's a side effect of the end of the war, in which death and violence are viewed as "necessary" and movies and TV are seen as priority.
