Interstellar: 20 Easter Eggs & References You Need To See
6. Zimmer Channels Zarathustra & Koyaanisqatsi
There's a good reason Nolan chooses to work with Has Zimmer so frequently: the composer is hugely responsive to the agendas he sets, even when - as in this case - they're no more than a sheet of notes. Though Zimmer has said the notes were as much about him as they were about the film itself, you can hear the reference points in his scores. Not only are there some very Space Oddyssey-like cues, especially in the organ notes that feel very much like they belong to Also Spake Zatharathustra. And of course, it would be silly to ignore the similarities in a good deal of the score to Philip Glass' Koyaanisqatsi, reminding us that Nolan's film is at times as much of a tone poem as Godfrey Reggio's.
