Iron Man 3 Super Bowl Trailer: 5 Things We Learned

1. Happy's Last Stand?

Happy Hogan We know something big is going to happen, and the way the first trailer was cut suggested that Pepper Potts was going to make her final bow (or at least Tony would think so) - which would fit with the synopsis mention of Tony's world falling apart, and his obvious allusion to wanting to protect her more than anything else. But could that have been misdirection? In this trailer, featuring a slightly different accompaniment to Tony's opening monologue of the first trailer, there is much more explicit focus on Happy Hogan as the subject of his speech, thanks to the shot of a beaten and bloodied Hogan reaching out (presumably to Tony?) It all feels a little bit more like a personal eulogy, and the speech that will gee Tony up before attempting to take on his enemies in a final showdown, and Happy's death would fit that theory well. Hogan's death would certainly fit the model set by Agent Coulson's death, and it would be the perfect motivation to turn Tony into a bad-ass vengeance machine, without necessarily the irreversible damage of Potts' death. And with Favreau no longer in the helmer's chair, the director might well be looking for a fitting opportunity to end his influence in style. What did you think of the Iron Man 3 Super Bowl trailer?
