7. Kill Off Pepper Potts...
Ever since the first trailers for Iron Man 3 showed Tony's home being blown apart and Pepper being catapulted across the room, fans had speculated that Pepper Potts would die during Iron Man 3. She survives the attack, and is then presumed dead once Killian knocks her into the fiery abyss below the platform he is standing on. However, she survives due to being infected with the Extremis virus, much to Tony's relief (and dismay). It was a bit of a cop-out, in my opinion, that Pepper didn't die; the moment had been built up so well that to then pull a fake-out on us just seemed kind of disappointing. However, this can be easily remedied in Iron Man 4, as fans won't be expecting it this time; if there's one way to bring Tony Stark to his knees above all others, it's by depriving him of the person he loves. Failing this, there is another way to make Gwyneth Paltrow's character actually
useful...
