Is Rhys Ifans Playing Q In BOND 23?
The eccentric Welshman is cast in the next James Bond movie in an unspecified role, but wouldn't we just love him to be the new Gadget genius Q!
He will going all green, slimy and reptile-like as the tragic and monstrous villain The Lizard when he battles The Amazing Spider-Man next July, but let's hope he recovers quickly because less than four months later he will be getting shaken and stirred with the James Bond franchise! A source has told Brit newspaper The Telegraph over the weekend that Ifans will appear in the film, as well as Javier Bardem, who will play the baddie. Much of the filming will take place in South Africa" capping off what will be the franchise year of the Ifans! Couldn't happen to a better actor either. There's no word on what role he might be playing but I would enlist on her majesty's secret service today if he was bringing back the sarcastic, gadget-God Q, which is much better casting than anything we suggested last week for who could step into the shoes of the late Desmond Llewellyn. Please let him be Q.... The welshman turns 44 this week (Llewellyn was 5 years older when he first played the character, which seems a good age for this) is probably best known for his versatility and the eccentricities he can bring to his characters whether it be as Hugh Grant's often naked room-mate in Notting Hill, the crackpot Harry Potter character Xenophilius Lovegood, the mad rocker in The Boat That Rocked or as the notorious Welsh drug smuggler Howard Marks in Mr. Nice. He also played Ben Stiller's friend in a quiet performance in last year's Greenberg. Let's also not forget the intense screen time Ifans and Bond's Daniel Craig shared in Enduring Love; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjS6zwUx1hA Something tells me his turn in The Amazing Spider-Man will define him next year and there's something about the Spidey baddies that does that to actors. Isn't it difficult to see anything other than The Green Goblin when you see Willem Dafoe, or Dr Ock with Alfred Molina or The Sandman with Thomas Haden Church? The still untitled Bond 23 is shaping up to have a Nolan/Batman-style cast of extraordinary talent, the best the series has ever had in my opinion; Daniel Craig returns as Bond, Judi Dench is M, Javier Bardem is the villain (Holy shit, right?) Ralph Fiennes has a major role Naomie Harris bring back Moneypenny! and now could Rhys Ifans be the new Q?? Sam Mendes (Road to Perdition, American Beauty) is the best ever director to have been hired for a Bond movie and he helms from a script that was previously written by Peter Morgan (The Queen, The Damned United) but has since been re-worked by playwright Patrick Marber (Closer, Notes on a Scandal) at the request of Mendes. Good call, I say. Roger Deakins will supposedly be lensing! Bond 23 is gonna rule next October.
