Is The Han Solo Movie In More Trouble Than We Thought?
4. The Desmystifying Story
This is a far older concern than anything borne directly outof Miller and Lord's departure or the publicised set troubles, but it still ought to be addressed. Part of what makes Han Solo so great is the mythology that exists around him - mostly thanks to the absence of fact that helped fertilise his claims of greatness.
We didn't need to see that he had earned his stripes as a bad-ass space pirate, because he earned them in his actions in A New Hope.
The problem with a prequel is that it demystifies everything about him, and there will no doubt be significant temptation to push that - showing him doing the Kessel Run, or - more worryingly, doing anything to compromise on his package of cool.
Is It Really All That Concerning?
Prequels don't naturally have to show too much, and the good news about the script is that it's great (the best ever according to at least one expert), with the latest news that Jabba The Hut plays a key part an excellent development.
There's bound to be some demystifying, but Rogue One proved that a prequel can expand on mythologised story elements without compromising their magic. Let's just hope the same can be achieved here.
