Is The Han Solo Movie In More Trouble Than We Thought?
1. Will It Be Delayed?
One of the biggest concerns for Star Wars fans - and the most tangible at this stage - is the film now going to be delayed? We know that Ron Howard has only just started filming, and the original schedule suggested filming would be finished in July - which has now been pushed back to September.
So either we're looking at a delay of a couple of months pushing Han Solo into the busier summer period of 2018 (where Ant-Man & The Wasp already sits), or pre-production is going to be rushed by a couple of months. The former might mess up the Disney schedule (though moving it away from Infinity War at the start of May isn't a terrible thing), but it would be infinitely better than rushing.
For now, Bob Iger has refused to confirm any delay, but would it really be an issue?
Is It Really All That Concerning?
When it comes out isn't as important as it being right, and as already qualified, there's not a great deal Han Solo will lose if it is shunted out of May and further back in the year. A summer position might be a good way to guarantee box office, but actually moving it later might be better (given how well the December releases have done for the past two films.
Sure, Aquaman, Mary Poppins and Spider-Man's animated movie are already there, but there's no reason why Star Wars still wouldn't dominate that market.
