It Chapter 1 & 2: Every Monster Explained & Ranked

17. Bob Gray

It Chapter Two Bill Skarsgard
Warner Bros.

In Chapter Two, we're introduced to Bob Gray, the "human" version of Pennywise who was weirdly presented as a sort of origin story for the clown in the marketing but who is no more than another projection.

He appears during the Mrs Kersch scene as her father in photographs and later we get to see him out of the Pennywise make-up. He's a pretty scary guy even without the fanciful get-up, covering his face in white greasepaint and then scratching deep cuts into his skin with his fingers.

If it hadn't been shown in the trailers, this would have been a far more affecting moment, even if there's no real explanation of where he comes from or why he's important given It predates him coming to Derry by thousands of years. Presumably, he was a real-life haunting or something, but it's never really explained.
