18. The Richie Doll

It Richie Doll
Warner Bros.

In one of the most memorable sequences of the first movie, Richie ends up being cut off from the rest of the Losers in a room full of clown dolls - one of his ultimate fears. Because he's normal and clown dolls are horrifying.

He walks through the room full of grotesque mannequins and marionettes - which themselves are pretty terrifying - with some of the dolls moving slightly as he walks by. At one point there's a doll based on Tim Curry's Pennywise, in a nice touch, but the climax of the scene sees Richie come upon a coffin.

Inside, in a slightly weird revelation, is a puppet version of Richie infested with maggots. It makes very little sense, but for a creepy moment it works and it leads to a good jump scare when Richie closes the casket and Pennywise bursts out.
