It Review: 9 Ups & 1 Down

4. It's Surprisingly Hilarious

As intensely serious as the film is at times, it also almost as much a comedy as it is a horror, making the most of the central group dynamic by doubling down on their sassy banter.

This undeniably helps humanise the Losers' Club and endears them to the audience, with a slew of hilarious one-liners that impressively don't feel forced despite how abundant they are.

Richie definitely gets the lion's share of the outrageous quips, but they're generally doled out well among the young cast, and provide some much needed levity and tonal balance in a film that could easily have ended up relentlessly dour.
