It's Time We All Admit Looney Tunes: Back In Action Is BETTER Than Space Jam
The nostalgia for Space Jam is strong, with followings online and across college campuses to this day. It struck a chord with sports fans and pop culture aficionados who would later grow up to become the nineties kids we know and work with today. Their jersey collection was never quite complete without a Tune Squad top nestled between one for the 1996 all star game, and one for the 92 dream team.
Beyond any shadow of a doubt, Space Jam was, and still is, a cultural phenomenon. But is it a good movie? Well, not really.
Calling a spade a spade in this case, Jordan can't act. The plot is standard sports movie fare. And the humor falls flat. People watch just for that game between the Tune Squad and the Monstars, but not much else.
Instead, the Lonney Tunes saw their artistic triumph with their next film, Looney Tunes: Back In Action. Directed by Joe Dante, who made Gremlins, an avid fan of the classic Warner characters, he set out to make an anti-Space Jam, which he saw as a commercial product. While unable to totally accomplish that, Dante still managed to produce a superior Looney Tunes live-action crossover.
