Jake Gyllenhaal: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
5 Awesome Performances...
5. Holden Worther - The Good Girl
When people bemoan Jennifer Aniston's post-Friends career, what they're actually complaining about is that she didn't make more films like this. Before getting herself marooned on the romantic comedy desert island with only Adam Sandler to nourish her, Aniston starred in this low-key indie drama about a thirty-year-old woman trapped in a loveless marriage and a dead-end job at the local supermarket. Then Jake Gyllenhaal's Holden turns up and she instantly falls for him. Taking his name from the narrator of JD Salinger's The Catcher In The Rye, a book the character almost permanently has his nose buried in, Gyllenhaal's turn as the not-so-innocent young man who manages to coax Aniston's Justine away from her clueless husband Phil and then turns out to be less of the dream toyboy she imagined. A subtle yet effective performance by the young Jake. Plus there's a sex scene between Rachel Green and Donnie Darko, which is a weird sentence.
