James Bond: 10 Awesome Gadgets That Would Never Work In Real Life

1. Laser Rifle/Pistol/Other Moonraker Space Stuff.

rsz_1vlcsnap-2013-07-30-21h11m51s222 It only seems fitting to end it on the concept that just simply went too far, as we talk about Bond's trip to space and all of the ridiculously inappropriate, yet awesome technology he finds. There's a debate to be had as to whether a laser Rifle is a 'gadget' but most of the gadgetry is in some form a weapon. Before we delve deeply into why the laser technology was awesome yet ultimately unrealistic, here's some context. A Drax industries Moonraker space shuttle is on loan, as it's suddenly hijacked with little clue as to its whereabouts. Bond is on the case as he gradually unravels the mystery of the missing Moonraker, discovering its involvement with a plan to eradicate the population of earth, in order to replace it with a genetically superior master-race. In order to do this, he stows aboard a Moonraker in an attempt to infiltrate Drax's space station. So Bond in space? That' an idea that initially sounds interesting, before realizing this is a film franchise initially based on espionage of all things. The Laser Rifle is highly featured in Moonraker, and the finale featured a full-scale space battle featuring all manner of ;aser weaponry, pistols, and rifles. The scene and the concept for the weaponry is pretty much ripped from Star Wars, in order to profit on A New Hope's popularity as its release was just a year and a half prior to Moonraker. The special effects were highly praised, and the film was nominated for the Academy Award for special effects. Yet no matter how cool they were, the film divulged from the source material in a huge way. Simply put, something like the laser rifle will never work in reality because the technology will most likely, never exist.
