James Bond: 10 Best Weapons In The 007 Movies

For a franchise running for nearly 60 years at this point, it's understandable that the James Bond films have undergone some radical changes throughout the years; from the visual style, the cars driven, some of the rather non-PC stereotypes, even the accent of the main character.

What has remained consistent is the creativity of the weapons at the disposal of 007 and his rogue's gallery. There have been the standard hand cannons you would expect a master-spy to wield as his sidearm, the hidden weapons that could strike you at a moments notice, or giant laser beams when the writers run out of ideas.

Some of the weapons of this series are as iconic as James Bond himself, from the simple pistol to the more outlandish devices at his or his enemy's disposal, and has been at the centre of some of the most iconic moments in cinema history.

For this list, a weapon is classified as any tool that can cause death and/or harm to its intended victims. Gadgets like watches usually get Britain's least subtle spy out of sticky situations rather than cause actual harm.

These are the weapons that have made 007 a household name.

10. Walther PPK - Skyfall

Separating the PPK from James Bond is like separating the cream from the Oreo, even though there are some strange people that like to do both, like the people who made Tomorrow Never Dies when they gave Bond a Walther P99. Too chunky a pistol for a suave spy-like 007.

The Walther PP series of handguns has been in production since 1929 and has largely been in use by the German military during the Second World War. Ian Fleming determined that this decidedly un-British weapon would be perfect for his spy, after 6 novels of a smaller Beretta 418. The PPK in particular is the smaller version with less ammo capacity, making it closer in size to Bond's previous firearm.

This has been the gun of choice for Bond in the films since day one, and in 2012's Skyfall it received a small but useful upgrade, that being a built-in fingerprint scanner, meaning if anyone but 007 tried to use the gun, it would be totally useless.
