James Bond: 10 Greatest Opening Title Sequences

1. Goldfinger

Goldfinger Title Card At number one on this list, it's Bond's most famous outings ever. Sean Connery donned the tuxedo in what was only Bond's third venture. The movie contains some of the best Bond characters ever: Oddjob, Pussy Galore and - of course - Auric Goldfinger himself. It also boasts some of the best lines in the series ("No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!') and a truly great opening sequence. The sequence is obviously very simple, as the movie was released in 1964. The effects weren't quite what we are used to now, but what we see is effective for the most part: a woman painted completely with gold paint, echoing a key scene from the film, poses for the camera, whilst Shirley Bassey belts out the films incredible theme song. Is it possible to render an opening title sequence in more iconic terms than that? The Bassey song "Goldfinger" is probably the most famous Bond song ever, of course. "Nobody Does it Better" comes close and maybe one day people will view Adele's Skyfall with similar affection, but Bassey takes the (ahem) gold. Like this list?
