James Bond: 10 Greatest Opening Title Sequences

4. GoldenEye

At number 4 is Goldeneye, a film that represented a huge change for the Bond series that was forced by outside events. In 1991, the world was transfixed on the Soviet Union as it crumbled and split into several states. Suddenly the US was the only superpower in the world and James Bond fans everywhere were left to wonder whether or not there was a place for a smooth talking secret agent after this huge change to current affairs. In 1995, after a six year hiatus, Bond was back! Pierce Brosnan was a new Bond for a new world order and GoldenEye represented this, perfectly portraying Bond as the agent who could adapt, leaving old-fashioned agents like Alec Trevelyan on the wayside. The opening credits sequence represents this change in the world of James Bond. A great track, performed by Tina Turner (but written by Bono and The Edge), is coupled with modern visuals that still manage to capture the essence of great Bond opening sequences. This comes together in the form of a great opening sequence that sets the tone for the movie perfectly. The tumbling hammers and sickles are a particular highlight.
