James Bond: 10 Most Hated Characters In The Series
1. Eve Moneypenny - Skyfall (2012)
Most controversially and with a heavy heart, Miss Moneypenny makes the list. Critics were divided by 'Skyfall' and Naomie Harris has a LOT of work to do in James Bond's 24th outing. Perhaps the biggest gripe is giving Moneypenny a name, you can't do that! For years Lois Maxwell was the prim and proper woman behind the desk with a saucy edge, simply 'Miss Moneypenny', as soon as you take Moneypenny out in the field look what happens, she shoots James Bond.
Everyone was so excited to see the return of Moneypenny to the James Bond franchise; after being missing from 'Casino Royale' and 'Quantum of Solace' there was definitely a large red headed hole in 007's heart. 'Skyfall' did a good job with it's twists and turns, but ultimately the reveal of Eve as Moneypenny and Mallory as 'M' were as clearly signposted as the M56.
Why else hate Moneypenny? Well for a start she can't drive, the entire opening of 'Skyfall' Moneypenny spends her time knocking over civilians and clipping wing mirrors off Moroccan cars. Secondly the 'Skyfall' Moneypenny is just that little bit too smutty- Moneypenny of old had the odd innuendo, but the shaving scene in Bond's hotel room would have Lois Maxwell turning in her grave. It still remains to be seen what direction Harris takes the character, but personally I think she needs to re watch some classic Bond; arguably Moneypenny is James Bond's longest love, so cinema should treat her the same.
