2. Elektra King - Sophie Marceau - The World Is Not Enough
Elektra King had it all, she was beautiful, sophisticated, intelligent and in dire need of a saviour. Bond first meets Elektra after her father is murdered whilst meeting with M at MI6 and he is assigned to her on protection duty, although she grants him a very cold welcome, as she is highly suspicious of MI6. Not helping this is the fact that Elektra was once kidnapped and held for ransom by Victor 'Renard' Zokas, although her father took M's advice and refused to pay the ransom, giving Bond good reason to believe her entire story and to understand her suspicions towards MI6, even leading Bond to begin to fall in love with this cunning seductress. It is not until later on that the truth behind Elektra King is revealed, she actually fell in love with Renard when she was his hostage, seemingly suffering from the highest degree of stockholm syndrome, and is now the mastermind behind the plot to set off a nuclear explosion that would destroy Istanbul and sabotage the Russians' pipeline in the Bosphorus, thus dramatically increasing the value of Elektra's own oil as the plans for her pipeline go around Istanbul. She eventually captures Bond and tortures him with a garrotte, with Bond only saved by Zukovsky's last bullet as he lays dying. Bond frees the kidnapped M and gives chase to Elektra, holding her at gunpoint, before she claims that Bond cannot shoot her, as he would miss her. Bond fires, killing Elektra, before proclaiming "I never miss." Made even more emotional by Bond's genuine affection for Elektra, there is a good chance that this is the toughest kill Bond has ever had to pursue, at least emotionally, leaving Elektra as the well deserved second deadliest Bond girl.
