James Bond: 10 Potential Spin-Offs And How They Would Work
1. It's Time To Reinvent The Bond Girl
When it comes to a new James Bond film, one thing that's completely unavoidable is extensive discussion on who the next “Bond girl” might be. In recent years the Bond franchise has treated its female characters a bit better (Moneypenny, for example, played by the fantastic Naomie Harris, is no longer confined to a desk and nothing but a bunch of sexual innuendos).
Nevertheless the “Bond girl” still exists: a prominent love or sexual interest for Bond who is really only there to be rescued or ravaged. What better way to push this trope into more three-dimensional territory, then, than to give us a spin-off centring on one of these characters?
After all, it's not like it's a brand new idea. As far back as 2002, following the release of Pierce Brosnan's Die Another Day, there have been plans to make “Bond girl” spin-off (in that instance, a film starring Halle Berry's Jinx).
It's not uncommon for the “Bond girl” to actually be an agent working for a different secret service, so why not actually show us what that's like? Perhaps the character could infiltrate somewhere like North Korea to gather intelligence, or be placed in a turbulent war zone.
And if we could get a cameo in which she briefly encounters and saves the current Bond's life before returning to his mission without a second though, that'd make it even better.
