James Bond: 5 Awesome Movies and 5 That Sucked

1. Die Another Day (2002)

Poor Pierce Brosnan; he's so well-cast as Bond, but aside from Goldeneye, he couldn't ever really catch a break. Die Another Day a film that begins strong, with Bond in prison - complete with a giant scraggly beard - but after an electric opening action scene, it all goes wrong; Madonna's title theme is memorable but not for good reason, and Halle Berry as Bond girl Jinx is thoroughly bland, making it even more questionable that there were murmurs of a Jinx spin-off film. The villains are dreadful, the action relies too much on CGI - who can forget the water-skiing scene? - and good actors like Rosamund Pike and Michael Madsen (yes, you read that right) are poorly misused. It doesn't help hiring a director of Lee Tamahori's ineptitude (Along Came A Spider, xXx2: State of the Union, Next) to helm the thing, but not even Martin Scorsese could have made sense of the messy, braindead screenplay. On the plus side, it was so horrible that we ended up getting the best Bond film ever made as a result, but was it worth it for having to sit through - and now write about - this pile of asinine dreck? The jury's still out... Does Skyfall make your top five Bond films? Do you agree or disagree with our list? Let us know in the comments below.
