James Bond: 8 Movies You Need To See To Understand Spectre

7. Dr. No

The very first James Bond film came out in 1962 and featured Bond facing off against Dr. Julius No. As the first big screen villain for 007, Joseph Wiseman's portrayal would set the standard for numerous other villains Bond would go up against ever since. This film was also the first time that SPECTRE is introduced. Although their role is not very large in the movie, Dr. No tells Bond that he's a member of them and judging from Bond's reaction, it looks like it's the first time he's heard of them. Dr. No also tells Bond that he thought there might be a place for him inside SPECTRE, which leads Bond (played by Connery) to remark that he's flattered and would "prefer the revenge department." This could provide a clue to the organization's role in Bond's life in the upcoming film. In the trailers, Oberhauser tells Bond, "It was me, James. The author of all your pain." Could Oberhauser and SPECTRE be trying to groom Bond for a position inside the organization, just as Dr. No apparently once considered doing?
