James Bond Films: Ranking Best To Worst

13. Octopussy

You may be wondering why a silly, less respected Moore flick is so high up in the rankings, especially as this is far away from the type of Bond film is truly enjoy. Well, there€™s two reasons. One, it was the first Bond film I saw on DVD, the very evening after seeing Die Another Day (and I was a lot more impressed by this), and Two, India is a country very close to my heart, so it was a delight to see if feature so heavily in the film. Of all the bond films I€™ll happily sit down and veg out over on a Sunday afternoon without criticising how bloody stupid it is, it€™s this one. Again, it features two perfectly good villains in Stephen Berkoff and Louis Jordan, and a perfectly good henchman, even if Gobinda lacks personality. It€™s a very romantic film, like its predecessor. I think the fact it is ever so slightly toned down in comparison to Moore€™s early efforts (you don€™t have to bring up the line €œfill €˜er up, please€, I know€), which I think is in part thanks to John Glen learning from the quality he injected into For Your Eyes Only. So out of all of Moore€™s €˜fun€™ films, this rates the highest. Octopussy herself is not the most memorable bond girl, but she is a cut above a lot of her contemporaries. It shows that Moore is getting on- I wish they addressed this as they did in For Your Eyes Only, and this would have been higher up the list. But still, if you want some truly exotic fun, this knocks pretty much all of Connery€™s out of the ballpark, anyway!
