James Bond Films: Ranking Best To Worst

17. The Spy Who Loved Me

Wow, yet another placing I know people will disagree with! and though there is much I love in it- it has the best theme tune, one of the greatest openings to the series, a fantastic Bond girl, the part of the film that takes place in Egypt, and who doesn€™t love an underwater car even if it is a Lotus?- It is placed this low because like other efforts directed by Lewis Gilbert, this is just not the type of Bond I love. I admire it a lot and understand why it€™s so beloved, but this just doesn€™t warrant further rewatches for me like some of the higher entries. It€™s a very fun, entertaining and confident Bond, but as you may be aware by now, I€™m not too keen on Moore€™s portrayal or his reign of film, although I am more inclined to enjoy them in comparison to Connery€™s films. So whilst this is the beginning of the bond films I do actually enjoy if only for entertainment value, the generic villain who is actually outshone by his henchman (as it is in From Russia With Love, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, The Living Daylights and The World is Not Enough) and the sheer cheesiness of it make this a low entry for me, no matter how strong Moore€™s chemistry is with Barbara Bach.
