1. Himself - The Oscars
In 2011, the Academy Awards decided to stray from their usual hosting regimen. The Oscars, a variety show spanning multiple hours for hundreds of millions of viewers, is generally hosted by a comedian; someone like Bob Hope or Billy Crystal, performers used to captivating large audiences with a sense of humor broad enough to appeal to the lowest common denominators. More recently, TV hosts with a background in comedy hosted the event, like John Stewart and Ellen DeGeneres, in a throwback to the king of late night himself Johnny Carson. In 2009, Hugh Jackman, Australian actor/singer and American Wolverine took the reins of the awards show. And in 2011, the Academy Awards were hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco. At this year's Academy Awards, Kristen Stewart again drew negative attention to herself by seeming less-than-uninterested by being a part of the night's big event, monotonously mumbling her way through the few lines she was responsible to utter. The Academy should've known better than to put this actress-- if we can call her that-- on stage. But in the Academy's defense, at least they didn't have her hosting alongside Anne Hathaway. Oscillating between moments of faux smug coolness and awkward low-brow comedy bits, James Franco may go down in history as the worst Academy Awards host ever. Perhaps he was nervous as he was also up for the Best Actor award for later in the evening. Or perhaps he'd gotten his hands on some of Saul Silver's Pineapple Express. Whatever the reason, let's hope the next time he ends up on stage it's as an actor and not a host.
