Jamie Lee Curtis: Her 10 Best Performances
8. Blue Steel
Directed by Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow, this underseen nineties thriller puts Jamie Lee front-and-center and gives her the chance to show off her acting chops.
Playing Megan Turner, she's a rookie NYPD officer who winds up shooting somebody within her first twenty-four hours on the job. The perp's gun from the crime scene, however, and leads to the police department questioning her integrity and decision-making abilities.
Curtis plays Turner as a quiet and reserved woman in the police station, allowing the intensity of her performance to simmer just beneath the skin as she's constantly questioned and berated. She brings a strength to the role that is palpable, especially in her finest moments like when Turner confronts her abusive father and ultimately arrests him.
In a role that could have very easily just been a helpless victim, Jamie Lee excels in the role, painting Turner as a complex character fueled by her desire to see wrongs righted in every part of her life.
