Killer Elite seemed like a good opportunity for Statham to try some real acting out: the material was strong and offered an intriguing story, and the cast pitted his skills against those of heavyweights like Clive Owen and Robert DeNiro. Surely nothing could go wrong.

Except, sadly, the film was awful - it was cliched and overstuffed with material, and it didn't come anywhere near meeting its potential.

One of the biggest flaws of the movie was Statham himself. This was pre-Redemption, Parker and Homefront so he was still finding his stride as a dramatic performer, and it wasn't exactly an easy nor a successful transition. Unfortunately, Killer Elite was some deep water to jump into to test his acting ability, as the story required some heavy turns and he was working opposite two guys who were already working on a different level entirely.

Watching Statham interact with Owen and DeNiro unfortunately made it all the more clear that he needed some work as an actor - though never of the pair were themselves on top form, both managed to make Statham look limited.
