Jason Statham: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
2. Jake Green - Revolver (2005)
On paper, Revolver initially seemed like it could've been cool.
Statham was re-teaming with Guy Ritchie after the successes of Lock, Stock... and Snatch, and Ritchie was returning to R-rated crime flicks after a huge misstep with his then-wife Madonna. Unfortunately, the reality was far different and Revolver is one big, fat pretentious movie where Statham rocks a terrible haircut and the plot is non-existent.
Statham's performance can probably again be blamed on bad material here. There's no character, no story and even Ray Liotta's only option was to ham it up to the extreme, stealing every scene in a horribly grotesque way that devalued everyone and everything around him.
The limited writing provides Statham with terribly stiff dialogue and he delivers it all in an ultra straight manner, which doesn't help matters. If he has any self-awareness, this is the one he should look back on with humour, because that's the only way it can be enjoyed these days.
