Jason Statham: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

2. Phil Broker - Homefront (2013)

Homefront Jason Statham

Homefront, based on a novel by Chuck Logan, is not only a thoroughly enjoyable film, it also features one of Statham's most mature and impressive performances.

Director Gary Fleder has talked about how Sylvester Stallone wanted Homefront to be Jason Statham's Cop Land and in some ways it is. Statham plays Phil Broker in the film and he's no action hero by traditional terms: he's a father trying to live a quiet life and raise his daughter the best he can. Statham could've phoned it in and simply brought the heat when it came to the action, but he creates a real character here that is easy to root for, and gives the film a lot more heart as a result.

The chemistry between Broker and his daughter is evident and Statham has a few moments of genuine acting, which set his performance apart from past roles. He plays a genuine relatable man here from the first frame to the last, and while it wasn't Cop Land, but it was pretty damn close.
